editing choices

-glitch effects-

throughout my project you may notice it kind of looks like it was exported badly, but if you'll look closer i've intentionally gone with that as a post animating/editing phase asthetic.

in fact, i have shown this in one of the more earlier peices that still remains in the final film and that is the title sequence. the reasoning behind this design choice is part in due to influence from the game doki doki literature club (see research page)

but i also had it in place so i could cover up some of the "jankier" animations whilst keeping with the found footage distorted world sort of style.

-selective colour use-

Another choice that i made earlier in terms of the overall style was to be very selective on how i use colour. i tried to keep it minimal in places, and sticking to only tones and reds (yellow can come too)

my reasoning behind this is that i wanted to make certain things pop out more to the veiwier, like the buttons for the air conditioning and the door in the 4th scene that nathan so haphazardly confuses. also with the blood,

the blood has been an important choice in terms of how i wanted to make my film somewhat gritty, dark but also comedic, it's a little over gertuatous at times and (as seem with lemonade kid) i attempt to use it, both to forward comedy and to stand out and have significance on the film overall.

-visual gags-

ok, so yeah.. what can i say, the original source material that i made this film from was originally a garbled mess of singular short comic books with no over arching narrative at all. i mean it's just pure punchline (whether it's funny or not is a discussion best left for another day)

i have tried to slip in a lot of visual gags into my film. even to the extent where they are so unnoticably out of shot or shown for such a short time that nobody would see them,

this was not a choice for the people who don't notice the jokes. it's more for the eagle eyed veiwer who spots the gag in the short time it's on screen.

still this isnt true for every gag, a lot of them are within the plot, story or in the animation itself.

it's not all billboards and comicbooks

-censorship-

ok, so my original animatic (thumbnail phase) was filled with rude words, and allthough i got a couple laughs on presenting it, i didnt hit where i wanted to, and after advice from nikki i was told to make a censored version. now after working on it for the duration of the year and thinking on how to tackle this censorship but also keep the parts where it's funny. so my solution was to take out the worst offender and cover it up with a car horn passing by... but then when i was editing, i thought to myself, yeah that is kind of funny... i guess.

but i knew it had been done before a few too many times for my liking, plus i wasnt sure it would fit with the humour.....

so basically my solution to this censorship issue was to find a royalty free smoking advert because i feel it comes off as somewhat unexpected enough to replace the profanity, plus i would argue it fits with the black and white colour scheme of the animation and keeps in line with the found footage appeal that i have been trying to get.
